The story of the day

Not every day on a marathon calendar needs a workout file. On 2026-07-22, Matthew Brunken's public Runalyze feed shows no logged run or bike sessions — treated here as a rest or off-structure recovery day in the build toward the California International Marathon (CIM) (December 2026).

Important context: Brunken uses cycling for much of his easy aerobic cardio. Bike days are training days in this diary when they appear on the public feed. A rest-day entry only means nothing public was available to cite — not that cycling "doesn't count."

Sessions

  • No public Running or Cycling activities on Runalyze for this date (athlete page).

How it fits the season

California International Marathon (CIM) in December rewards athletes who can absorb work. The Garmin Kansas City Half Marathon checkpoint will ask for freshness as much as fitness. Planned rest, easy bikes, and easy runs all keep the build honest when they are logged.

Coaching takeaway

A public diary that only celebrates running miles lies by omission. This site treats easy bike miles as real aerobic work whenever Runalyze publishes them.

Looking ahead

Return to aerobic work — on foot or on the bike — when legs and schedule agree. The next logged session will pick the story back up.
