Role of the long run
The long run is still the simplest weekly stress that teaches endurance. Not because it is mystical — because it demands patience, fueling, and form after the freshness is gone.
How today went
Early miles stayed intentionally restrained. Mid-run was about rhythm and hydration. The last third was where attention mattered most: cadence, posture, and refusing to renegotiate the plan because a mile felt "too slow" on the watch.
Fueling & heat
- Started hydrated
- Took fluid on a schedule, not only when thirsty
- Kept gels/chews practical rather than experimental
Nebraska summer heat rewards boring competence. Fancy plans fail when bottles are empty.
Coaching takeaway
Athletes love to move the long run earlier and faster every week. Better pattern: hold effort steady, grow duration gradually, and protect the days after. A long run that ruins Monday is not a badge — it is a planning error.
Looking ahead
Next week keeps similar long-run duration with cleaner fueling notes. Quality work stays modest until recovery markers look calm.
