The point of an easy day
Base weeks are where endurance careers are actually built. Today's run stayed deliberately conversational — no heroics, no stolen threshold work hiding inside "easy."
For me, that usually means:
- Starting slower than ego wants
- Checking posture and cadence after the first mile
- Leaving the session with legs that could go again tomorrow
Session notes
Conditions in Lincoln were warm but manageable. The route mixed neighborhood loops with a longer stretch to keep the mind quiet. Effort stayed aerobic the whole way; breathing never forced the pace.
Key cues
- Relax the shoulders on the second half
- Drink early if heat is climbing
- Log the run the same day so the training log stays trustworthy
Coaching takeaway
Student athletes often under-value easy volume because it does not feel impressive. The impressiveness shows up later — in how long you can hold form when races get honest. If you only remember one thing from base season: consistency outruns intensity theater.
What's next
A light strength circuit later in the day, then another aerobic session tomorrow. Race-specific work waits until the base is thick enough to support it.
